What is your favorite type of Movie

It was a big movie day since the dogs got me up at 2AM this morning:

Started off with Good Morning Vietnam (1987). Based on the real-life story of Adrian Cronauer, an Armed Forces Radio D.J. during the Vietnam War. Robin Williams plays the leading role with an excellent supporting cast. https://youtu.be/6S8MV523ASA It gets a solid 7 out of 10. The story drags in the middle, but the D.J. scenes are fantastic.

Next came the Arnold Schwarzenegger / Jamie Lee Curtis action adventure True Lies (1994). Schwarzenegger plays a deep-cover spy; one so deep even his family is unaware of his actual job. Tom Arnold brings the funny as the comic-relief sidekick who keeps Arnold on his toes. The dance scene with Curtis is worth the price of admission. https://youtu.be/BNO0caCjSNk It gets an 8 out of 10.

Finally, before taking a nap, I watched the 1971 cult classic Vanishing Point. Considered by many to be one of the best car chase movies ever (it's #5 on my list), we get the story of a car delivery driver (Barry Newman) who has repeatedly lost everything and has nothing else to lose. Driving from Denver to San Francisco, Kowalski goes head-to-head with every police department in-between those states. While Newman plays the lead, the star of the show is the 1970 Arctic White Dodge Challenger with a 160 M.P.H. top-end. Cleavon Little (Blazing Saddles) gives an Oscar-winning performance as the blind D.J. Super Soul who guides Kowalski over-the-air. https://youtu.be/2iBZLP5SxC8 An 8 out of 10 and a must-watch if you are a car guy.

Being a teacher, I find an association with The Substitute 2: School's Out 1998 . Not the same quality of the original....It still is a decent run for those invested. https://youtu.be/1E6vB_Df4Xk It gets a 6 out of 10.

Today I tried something different. It took a lot of searching, as the movie was labeled incorrectly, but eventually I discovered the correct title of it; Scorching Sun, Fierce Winds, Wild Fire[ (1979) AKA Any Which Way You Punch and Dragon Connection. It is a Hong Kong-styled Taiwanese Kung Fu movie with plenty of high-flying action and scripted as if Jackie Chan were to star in it. Unlike many of the oriental movies of this era, it has a very strong female lead. There are no trailers for the film on the web, at least as far as I could find. You can watch a full version of it free here... https://archive.org/details/20231001_20231001_0137 I give it a 6 out of 10.

On a side note, the attentive cinephile will notice the theft of John William's musical score from Star Wars sprinkled throughout the film, especially during the opening credits.

Another movie day with nothing else to do:

Started off with something new Armor (2024). Definitely not Stallone's best. https://youtu.be/3plTi-_IurA A Father and son team are driving an armorer car and get hijacked. They have to hold off the crew while saving a million-dollar load in gold. It could have been much better, but just falls flat. A 5 out of 10.

Keeping with the Rocky Theme, we then watched Action Jackson (1988). Carl Weathers plays the lead role of a cop who gets hip-deep in everything that comes his way. Most of the supporting cast made appearances in the 1987 Lethal Weapon and 1988 Die Hard. This film just didn't catch on for the sequel run. Nice popcorn flick. https://youtu.be/MN0sV-WuB-g It gets a 7 out of 10.

Netflix movie ‘Forgotten Love’. Based on a famous polish book, the film tells the fascinating story of a brilliant surgeon who loses his memory and starts a second life, reuniting by chance with his daughter.
