Sometimes I can really understand what Tom Hanks felt like in the movie- "Castaway", as one who values the connection with others, and prizes the fine art of conversation. Hobbies? I love cruising, either on my motorcycle or my boat- savouring the chance to enjoy the out-of-doors. I am old enough now that I am not into hiking or mountaineering, but there are plenty of ways to get outdoors and feel a part of the larger world. Whether it's working around the yard, or driving the backroads, I love the sense of exploring and seeing new things.
I'm the sort of guy that can, and will, strike up a conversation with anyone I meet- by no means the "life of the party", but with a wide range of interests to share and an inquiring intellect that prizes the things that others have learned to cherish along the way.
Like most people, I go through phases in which I am more or less inclined to get involved in the community. I can rightly brag about my involvement with such things as civic theatre, along with other volunteer efforts over the years, and I am always looking for new and interesting ways to get involved.
I love movies, and have found the new access to cinema via things like Netflix particularly worthwhile, as I've been exposed to filmworks that I would never have seen otherwise, and I actively seek out those things that would never find a broad enough appeal to make it to any but the most serious art theatre.
What am I looking for here? Interesting people to talk with, in a nutshell. No one can know in which direction a dialogue will ultimately lead, so I serve up the ball in hopes of beginning a satisfying volley that will leave us both feeling that our time together was time well spent. Occasionally, in life, I have known such moments, and that experience keeps me coming back for more.
What can you tell about a person by a listing of their interests? I have no idea, but to provide some grist for the proverbial mill I offer these glimpses. I was a real fan of the Star Trek series, and some of its spin-offs. I gravitate (get that clever tidbit?) for space and science fiction. Romance, however, is the genre that gets my closest attention, when it comes to movies. Historically based films, like "Monuments Men", and "Rudy" are among my favorites. In music, my taste runs along eclectic lines- everything from '60's beach music to '70's rock operas and protest songs, to country, and yes (horrors!) even a bit of opera to round out the mix.
When it comes to sports, I am a fan of the NFL- the Packers in particular, but also enjoy watching the Steelers and Patriots. I have gone as far as seeing several games at Lambeau, and had the time of my life sharing the electricity of those moments with so many others.

My Ideal Match:
Without putting too sharp a point on it, I am looking for those souls who enjoy a good conversation, and who hope to establish a friendship where the miles between us don't matter. I confess my appreciation for those who can string together a coherent sentence, taking pride in little things like spelling and usage. I know that most everyone out there has something to offer, even if spelling is not their forte. I am not into argumentative exchanges, and have no illusions that it's "only my way, or the highway". I am secure enough in what I have come to feel and believe in my life that I can hear what others have to say without feeling my universe being threatened.

Hopefully this one can, as I have a problem with paying to join some dating site, and would prefer that there are options out here that are not trying to constantly get money out of us for something as simple as matching folks so they can see if friendship blossoms...
