What is your favorite failed TV show? (16)

Apr 27, 2025 12:32 PM UTCGive me a light year to think about that.

Apr 28, 2025 3:59 PM UTCI remember when I was a little boy, Star Trek vanished, then after a year, it came back Big Time. Then one could watch it everyday for over a decade.

Apr 28, 2025 8:26 PM UTCThat doesn't count. It lasted 3 seasons. I'm thinking along the lines of Kolchak: the Night Stalker.

Apr 28, 2025 11:32 PM UTCI agree with Firefly being a great series. It's sad that it was cut short. One of the few series that all the actors and story gelled perfectly right from the very beginning. But I can't say it was my favorite because I have many favorites and can't pick just one.

Apr 28, 2025 11:40 PM UTCActually when I think about it there's maybe only 2 that failed early. The other one is Stargate Universe.

Only 2 seasons...that qualifies.
There were a few Law & Order spin-offs that also would qualify. There are so may failed series.

Apr 29, 2025 5:22 AM UTCWhile the show initially enjoyed high ratings, the average rating of the show at the end of its first season dropped to 52nd out of 94 programs. Unhappy with the show's ratings, NBC threatened to cancel the show during its second season.[20] The show's fan base, led by Bjo Trimble, conducted an unprecedented letter-writing campaign, petitioning the network to keep the show on the air.[20][21] NBC renewed the show, but moved it from primetime to the "Friday night death slot", and substantially reduced its budget.[22] In protest, Roddenberry resigned as producer and reduced his direct involvement in Star Trek, which led to Fred Freiberger becoming producer. After the original series was canceled, Desilu, which by then had been renamed Paramount Television, licensed the broadcast syndication rights to help recoup the production losses. Reruns began in late 1969.

Apr 29, 2025 10:09 AM UTCWhat Wikipedia doesn't mention was that the show was moved twice, and still set records for the new time slots and even out-performed shows on the better nights and timeslots. The common rumor was that Star Trek underperformed. It did not.

Try that.
BTW: Desilu was founded and co-owned by husband and wife Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. The company was a combination of their names.
There is also a two-part book set if you would rather get deeper in it.

Apr 29, 2025 3:19 PM UTCIt really bothers me that a show like Firefly that showed so much promise gets cancelled after the first season. But a show like Falling Skies which had a reasonably good first season then only got worse should have never made it to 5 seasons.

Mostly it is about an agenda, not the content -
Apr 30, 2025 1:59 AM UTCDesi Arnaz and Lucille Ball did well for each other even after they divorced.

May 1, 2025 12:38 PM UTCIf you want to count Star Trek, you should also count Quantum Leap

While I have heard of that show when it was on. I never watched it. I think the name just didn't make me think it was worth watching. -

Introduction To Friends List
What I mean by that is a show that did not last three seasons.
It could be Firefly, the original Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century, Daybreak, Alcatraz...there are so many.
Mine obviously has to be Firefly...it was a gem that could have been the next Star Trek.
